Priyadarshini, the Lucknow woman seen recently in viral video clips thrashing a cab driver, has said she slapped the driver in her defence. Priyadarshini said she would push and slap anyone who came close to her.
Speaking to India Today TV, Priyadarshini said that pushing and slapping someone might be wrong but she had no other alternative to protect herself.
“If a man comes close to my body inappropriately, I first push him away and if he doesn’t understand, I slap him. No man can touch a woman’s body like this and I get angry at this. Should I wait for the police at such a moment or defend myself?” Priyadarshini said.
“I have seen incidents where girls have been pulled inside vehicles forcibly. At that time, if the girl waits for the police, she won’t be able to save herself. I have the right to protect myself and whatever I do in this regard will not be wrong,” she added.
In a video that went viral on social media, Priyadarshini was seen thrashing the cab driver Saadat Ali while a traffic officer tried to stop her.

The driver claimed that Priyadarshini came in front of his car, even though the traffic light was green. Even though he pushed the breaks, the woman started pushing against the car and slapped him, the cab driver claimed.
‘Cab driver broke signal, hit me’
Priyadarshini claimed that the cab hit her and that’s what angered her. “If the cab driver had been in any developed country and broke the signal, he would not have been out of jail and giving interview on TV,” she said.
Priyadarshini said had the defence personnel, who were present at the spot, not stopped her, she would have slapped the cab driver 25 times instead of 22.
She also claimed that the driver and some other people hit her after the incident. “It was like a mob lynching,” she said, adding that the police are verifying the CCTV footage where she was hit by Saadat Ali and his ‘gang’.
‘Have hit people in the past’
This is not the first she has hit somebody in ‘self-defence’, Priyadarshini told India Today TV.
In the past, a biker in a drunk state tried to touch her inappropriately but she had pushed and slapped him, Priyadarshini claimed. This incident also took place at Awadh Chauraha in Lucknow, she claimed.

She alleged that the men she assaulted ran a gang to harass women and she would continue to beat them if they came again.
‘Cannot bear hate against my family’
Priyadarshini said she was upset with the negative content and memes against her online and on social media platforms.
“Without knowing the matter, people are writing anything about me. If you are writing about someone, then you should have the proof. You cannot write anything about someone and their family and destroy their image,” Priyadarshini said.
“I can tolerate if someone makes fun of me, but I cannot bear the hate against my family. I request people to stop making these memes as the same incident could happen to them as well. Let the police and law take their course,” she added.
Priyadarshini said if the negative news around her continues to get published, she would take help from the cyber cell of the police.
‘Not arrested and running away anywhere’
On rumours relating to her arrest, “If I had been arrested, I would not be giving interview on live television. I am not among those who run away.”
Priyadarshini, who was questioned for two hours by the Lucknow Police on Sunday, said she has cooperated with the police investigation so far. “This matter is between me, the cab driver and the police. Let the police investigation reveal the truth.”
